Sewing Room/Studio Almost Complete!

Not quite the post you were expecting, but I'm getting there :). I've been busy all this week getting my rooms unpacked and organised, this is how my sewing room/studio is looking so far... the pile of clothes is some of the stuff I have made, it is sat there awaiting the rail that I'll be buying for it in the next couple of week.

Draws all organised, I'm yet to find more threads, pins and so on as I'm still unpacking but it is easier to unpack now it all has a place.

Sewing machines and my easel :)

My little corner that will soon have more family photographs in it, so I have something to make me smile when I'm stressed with work.

Old work hung on the wall to help inspire me

Beautiful sewing machine on loan, that is now my favourite to use.

Drawer attachment, very handy!

Even though its old it still does a fair amount, and it even does embroidery! Very impressed.

The back...

Just beautiful, it runs so smoothly, definitely in love with it :) I do prefer older machines.

Well for now I best get back to the unpacking, still have mountains more to get through.

Moving House

Sorry I haven't been around much lately I've been moving back home, as I've now finished University! It's all very exciting. So as you can probably imagine I have a lot of unpacking to do... a lot would be an understatement! I filled up a whole transit van all to myself and I've taken up 2 large rooms and one small room of all my stuff.

Luckily enough I still have internet, however I have that much stuff to unpack I'm not going to post as much as I would like, in the next couple of days (when I find it) I will be publishing how far I've got with my baby and toddler range of clothing so keep checking back, just bare with me because I have a lot to do, in so little time, as in a few days time I'll also be going on holiday to Tenerife, a little treat from my lovely boyfriend :) I'll make sure I post some holiday snaps! No doubt I'll use it to inspire my next lot of work :)

Again apologises for the lack of blogging but here's why...

This is halfway unpacked, it was actually worse than this, I have too much stuff! But hey, at least the cats happy...

"Fabric that doesn't bleed"

I knew fur was bad, and ever since I looked into the fur industry I had started to gain a hatred of leather too, because I figured it would be similar... I never realised just how similar!

Here's the fabulous designer Stella McCartney's view of leather, and I have to say I 100% agree with her!

Finished watching it? Now you know why its not good to use or wear leather. It's totally disgusting what animals go through just so "we" can have "luxurious" fabrics, you can buy synthetic fabrics nowadays which mimic both fur and leather, and if you know where to go you can find really high quality versions (Ebay is one of them), so please stop and think before you do!

P.S If you still really want to wear fur or leather, you could always go to vintage shops/festivals or charity shops and buy coats etc from there, that way at least its recycling...

Delirious Dinos

After discovering Redbubble on saturday, I figured I'd make some more designs just for Redbubble, aimed more towards the market that I interpret they bring in. So say Hello to my Delirious Dino Range, which are all made for t-shirts, posters, cards, post cards, framed prints, iPhone/iPod cases, baby grows, hoodies and much more!!

In the range you'll find Tea Rex - for all you tea addicts out there, Pandasaurus - for the Panda obsessed like me out there, Tee Rex - for all those that love their quirky t-shirts, and Geekasaurus - for all my fellow geeks, haha.

Tea Rex is my personal favourite, he was also my first design. I just love him and his vintage little bow tie so much :)

All of them were first drawn with pencil and paper which I then scanned in to bring them over to photoshop, where they were neatened up, colour was added and they were blown up or cropped to the appropriate sizes for the different mediums they are available on.

If you are interested in buying any of my little friends above, then you can find them HERE or you can find them in the Shop tab underneath my page header, you'll also find my Retorta Conscientia Range there to.

I'm hoping Tea Rex and co will be joined by more Delirious Dinos soon so stay tuned!

Hope you like them, feedback is highly appreciated so don't hesitate to tell me what you think.

Final Year Fashion Show

The video has been released by the university of our fashion show so I thought I'd share it with you, it contains everyone's designs from my year, or if you only want to skip to see mine it comes on at 19.09 minutes, you'll also see my friend Helen Williams' garment on the male model with mine, as she only had one model; her cat print is so cute!!

Out front it looks like it all ran smoothly and calmly, I'm not going to lie, out back was total chaos! Trying to get 35+ models clothes and in some cases make up changed and out on time and then dealing with broken zips, safety pins and so on was crazy, but it was fun and we were pleased with the results and I hope you are too! :)

We were also told by the tutors it was the best year yet, and we've all been to previous ones before and we know we definitely had the best turn out, it looks pretty packed in this video, this was the second show there was even more people there the first time, when we all came out with one of our designs at the end it was pretty overwhelming as we never imagined to have a turn out as good as that, people were out by the door craning their heads trying to see the show it was unbelievable, so happy!!

Anyway enjoy... Oh and if you look carefully you can see sections of our print designs actually on the catwalk...

And the exhibition afterwards... we all has one white rail to use only here's what mine looks like...

Finishing touches!

Taahh daaahh

Let me know what you think :)

Preparation for New Designers

New Designers is a big graduate show in London with hundreds of budding young designers trying to get their name and designs known! Various scouts are found trolling the up and down the stands from each University that shows there, looking for the next big thing. You can find out more here: New Designers

Anyway, my university is one of the many that show there so my work will be there whether its just in a portfolio case or whether its my garments (fingers crossed for the second, although I'm starting to feel like I left out so much in my sketchbook I have no hope but meh!)

So... starting to get my bits together and the first lot is my business cards! (Blurred out the phone number for obvious reasons) I have two different fronts and I've ordered 50 free from moo.com I made them a standard size 8.5cmx5.5cm, and I've gone for my more recent designs on them :)

Retorta Conscientia A/W 2013/14

So my final designs are complete and here's the photoshoot of them, its missing the vest top and skirt due to the photoshoot being rearranged countless times because of models dropping out, but I'll be doing another photoshoot with everything hopefully in the next month. When I do this I'll be photographing all the garments I've made to finish off my portfolio to a nice professional standard :)

Anyway let me know what you think... I've designed everything from the print to the garment, the dress and the cape and one scarf are completely hand screen printed by myself to, the top and the two other scarves are digital print designs based on my buttons from previous posts.

MODEL: HANNAH DAWSON
PHOTOGRAPHER: DANIEL CHESTERTON PHCIMAGES.COM
DESIGNER AND CREATOR: ME, SARAH JACKSON

All are inspired by the topic Identity -  Where I delved into how the mind works, the inner workings of the body and distorted facial features in order to discover what really makes us unique and to find out where our true identity comes from.
